Caviar20 is excited to offer this recently restored vintage sculpture by Vasa Mihich, a Los Angeles-based artist renowned for his sleek, colorful, and captivating acrylic sculptures.
For nearly 50 years, Mihich has been working in acrylics, whether on canvas or through sculpture.
His sculptures, with their different geometric planes suspended in acrylic, are dynamic and endlessly fascinating.
“Big X” is a unique example of Mihich’s exploration of shape and color. Atypical of the rest of his oeuvre, which typically employs bold shades of neon disintegrating into various colors and patterns, this work features a large graphic "X" through the center of the work.
This dynamic piece is also one of the largest of Mihich's that we've carried and features his signature palette of electric blue, pink, and cherry red.
Like the best of Mihich's work, the vantage point and light source dictate the interaction of the colors and shapes within the sculpture’s geometric form.
When viewed straight on, this work showcases an "X" made up of four internal and intersecting rectangular planes. The "X", suspended in a clear acrylic rectangle, completely disappears when viewed from the side, morphing into a minimalistic color block arrangement.
Mihich was a Senior Professor of Design at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where he (not surprisingly) taught color theory for many years. After dedicating much of his career to education, Mihich is now fully committed to his studio in Los Angeles where he continues to push the potential of acrylic sculpture.
